The 5000 Foundation

What is The 5000 Foundation?

Purpose:

The purpose of The 5000 Foundation is to spread the love of God through food. We have been running a little bakery for about a year now and realized that we love feeding people! There are so many people in our area without good, quality food, and are usually given very low quality processed foods from food pantries and food banks. We decided that the best way to help would be to use our bakery to help feed people that need it.

Name:

The 5000 Foundation name was inspired by Matthew 14:13-20 and John 6:5-14. In this biblical account a large crowd followed Jesus and as night was approaching, the disciples realized the people had nothing to eat. They were going to send them away, but Jesus told them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." So Jesus made a miracle happen and fed them with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Not only did he feed them, but they had more scraps leftover than what they started with. They recorded that he fed 5000 men that day (probably tens of thousands of people, but only men were counted at that time).

What we do:

How are we going to feed people? We are going to roll out our ministry in 2 phases:

PHASE ONE - Pre Funding: <-- Where we are now

We are going to ask the community to sponsor bread, bagels, and cookies for their neighbors. They can purchase items as gifts and spread love to those they know are in need. We will also be accepting donations at this time to reach phase two

PHASE TWO - Post Funding: <-- Where we will be

After we receive enough funding to do this full time we will be changing our model. We will accept nominations of people and families that need help. We will be appealing through social media for nominations. There will be no cost to anyone once we're funded and we'll fulfill requests as we get them.

How much money do we need to be fully funded?:

Since we're already setup as a bakery we don't need a ton of donations to be able to ramp up production. Here's a breakdown of what we need:

Startup: ~$10,000

501c3: ~$5000

Yearly: $50,000

Every year after should stay around $50,000.

All our finances will be transparent and available upon request. As we create our own website we'll have a finances tab with detailed information available all the time.

FAQ:

1. Why aren't you a 501c3?

We fully intend to become a 501c3. However, that is expensive and takes some time. It's cost us around $1000 to just be able to take donations so far.

2. Are you going to have a website of your own?

Yes! We're working on building it now. It just takes time to get it right.

3. Are your products going to be different for people you're helping?

Nope! We will create the same high quality and nutritious foods for everyone! That's kind of the idea, isn't it? People in difficult situations deserve good food, too!

4. How can I help?

Donate! Seriously, we need your donations to make this work. We're not wealthy by any means. If you can donate, or know a business/church/organization that would like to donate please contact us!
